Seedless grapes have been the new rage, at least in the United States, since about 1872. The seedless grapes sold in grocery stores across the country have come from a European seedless grape strain. Since this was a hit, grape growers spread this variety of grape all over the world.
The seedless grape strain has a genetic abnormality that causes the plant's seeds to cease development. Technically, the grapes are not seedless, but instead have tiny specks, which are aborted seeds.
