Spirillum is the name of a bacterium. It is rigid and spiral shaped as its name implies. The plural form of spirillum is spirilla. It is prokaryotic in nature. This bacterium was first described by van Leeuwenhoek in the 1670s and Muller later on. It is large sized bacterium and has a helical structure. Their size is something between 1.4 to 1.7 micrometers in diameter. Its length comes up to 60 micrometers.
